The second Test between England and New Zealand will see 18,000 fans, which is around the 70 percent of ground capacity, present in the stadium on each of the five days of the Test. The England-New Zealand Test series gets underway from June 2 and the second Test will be played from June 10-14 at Edgbaston. The decision of allowing fans in the stadium was taken under the government’s event research programme which aimed to understand the pros and cons of mass gathering. All the fans must produce COVID-19 negative reports of not more than 24 hours old. All individuals should over 16 years and must submit their consent for participating in the programme.
Chief Executive of the England Cricket Board was delighted over the development and said that he can’t wait to welcome large number of fans in the stadiums.
“Having crowds back into cricket grounds is so important for the game and for our fans too,” said England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Tom Harrison.
“The last 15 months have shown just how big a role cricket plays in many people’s lives, and we cannot wait to welcome a growing number of fans back to our stadium over the coming months.”
