The 28-year-old has picked up a total of 113 Test, 113 ODI, and 67 T20I wickets in 27, 70, and 57 games respectively. The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) rewarded Jaspirt Bumrah for his impeccable contribution by naming him the vice-captain. KL Rahul was ruled out of the Sri Lanka series due to injury.
Thus the management decided to make Bumrah the deputy on Rohit Sharma in both the Tests and T20Is. With Bumrah named as the vice-captain, there are chances that he can be considered as a potential captaincy contender after Rohit Sharma.
Bumrah was recently involved in a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on the latter’s ‘DRS With Ash’ episode on his YouTube channel where he spoke at lengths regarding the captaincy.
The seamer is not in the favor of chasing the leadership role. However, Jasprit admitted that he won’t shy away from accepting the captaincy or any role in the future given by the team management. The 28-year-old is absolutely ready to lead India in the future.
“I don’t like to chase things because I don’t want to… See I am a person who believes that God has a plan and everything will find out its own way, so I don’t like to hamper the plan that is there. I try to never change anything,”
Jasprit Bumrah told Ravi Ashwin.

“Whatever role is asked of me I would do it with the best ability that I can. I don’t want to change the whole organization, you are always a leader when you are a senior member of the team so it’s just a post that comes with you,”
he added.
Jasprit Bumrah further added that he is a senior member of the Indian team and is always ready to help the youngsters and captain in any way he can. The pacer added that he wants to help his teammates and not just chase the title of being the captain of the Indian team.
“Even in Mumbai Indians, you have got a lot of senior players but now I am one of the senior players as well so you help the captain, you help everyone, you play the leadership role even when you are not asked to.
“That’s how I look at it. I never want to, you know, just for personal satisfaction have that okay I want to be in this I have to be the captain. It’s just a post, it’s just a name, you have to do your job and you have to help people in the best way you can. Yes, if given an opportunity at any scenario, it would be an honor and I would never ever shy away from that, but it is something that I don’t go looking for,”
Jasprit Bumrah concluded.
