IPL 2022 Mega Auction: The cricket fans should brace themselves for an exciting and thrilling tournament as the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to get underway from the last week of March 2022. The marquee tournament will feature as many as ten teams locking horns with each other. 

Before the league, another nerve-wracking event awaits the cricket fanatics i.e mega auction. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expanded the Indian Premier League from an eight-team league to a ten-team contest. IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Venue and Date

It is reported that the mega auction will be a two-day event. BCCI has officially announced that they will be conducting the entire event on February 12 and 13. The auction will take place in Bengaluru.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Players Retained by the IPL Franchises

As many as 33 cricketers have already been retained by the ten IPL franchises. The old eight teams have retained a total of 27 players while the new teams have picked three players each. Notably, the old teams were given a choice of retaining a maximum of four players including a maximum of three Indian players and two overseas cricketers.

The Indian board had declared January 21 as the last date to register for the upcoming auction. A total of 1214 are expected to go under the hammer as they have registered their names for the mega event. Out of 1214 cricketers, 896 are from India while the count of overseas players is 318. 

The list features a total of 207 capped players, 903 Uncapped, and 41 associate nation players. Apart from India, players from Australia, South Africa, West Indies, and England have shown great interest in the T20 Championship.

As many as 59 Australian players are keen on going under the hammer while the count for South Africa, West Indies, and England is 48, 41, and 36 respectively. 30 Sri Lankan players and 29 cricketers from New Zealand have also applied for the event. 

Notably, the players have been divided into five brackets according to their base price. All the players had an option of choosing from many base salaries namely INR 2 Crore, INR 1.5 Crore, INR 1 Crore, INR 50 Lakh, and INR 20 Lakh. Read our latest 10cric app review here.

The two most surprising names in the lowest salary brackets are Avesh Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Avesh is expected to fetch a hefty amount in the auction owing to his exceptional bowling performance for Delhi Capitals during IPL 2021. Shahrukh Khan was also decent in IPL 2021 for Punjab Kings.
