Team India suffered a massive blow in the second One Day International as they ended up on the wrong side of the result. Playing against South Africa in Paarl, India was up in a do-or-die match. Though the visitors had their moments during the game, they lost the match by seven wickets.

With this loss, India have also lost the One Day series by 2-0. Following a 31-run defeat in the first One Day International, the Men in Blue decided to back their players as they fielded the same playing XI.

The toss went KL Rahul’s way and he decided to bat first. India’ didn’t start on a good note as they lost Shikhar Dhawan at 29 while Virat Kohli bagged a five-ball duck. However, what followed after that was a much-needed partnership between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Pant was at his aggressive best at he played a masterclass of innings to smack 85 runs off 71 balls. Rahul, on the other hand, took his time on the field and with three lifelines, managed to post 55 runs off 79 balls.

In the end, it was Shardul Thakur who applied the finishing touches as he hammered 40 runs with the help of three boundaries and one maximum. India ended up with a decent score of 287 runs in their allotted 50 overs. Here’s BBL 2022 schedule and Live Score Update.

However, the target wasn’t enough considering the golden form of the South African batters. The host made a mockery of the Indian bowlers as they caused carnage on the field. It took India 132 runs and 21.6 overs to pick their first wicket in the second innings.

The opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan came set from the dugout as they hammered the ball all over the park right from the beginning. The two-stitched a 132-run partnership. De Kock added 78 runs to the scoreboard while Malan slammed 91 runs.

Shardul Thakur gave the first breakthrough to India by sending Quinton back. It was followed by the other two wickets by Jaspirt Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal in the form of Malan and Temba Bavuma.

However, India made a late entry to the game as South Africa easily won the game by seven wickets. Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen remained not out at 37 runs each as they took their team to the total within 48.1 overs.

The loss in the ODI series came as a big blow for India as they were still recovering from a heartbreaking defeat in the Test series. It also means that Virat Kohli remains the only Indian skipper to win an ODI series on the Proteas soil. Don’t forget to buy your favorite team jersey. Check the IPL all team jersey 2022 here.
