Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced the 18 member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. There are quite a few surprises in the team as Sri Lanka have sacked their captain, Dimuth Karunaratne and have handed over their reigns to the wicket-keeper batsman, Kusal Perera. Kusal Mendis has been named as the vice-captain of the side. Senior players like Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne have failed to make a cut into the team. The squad also includes some new faces like Chamika Karunaratne, Shiran Fernando, Asitha Fernando, and Binura Fernando while Ashen Bandara, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Wanindu Hasaranga, who were in top form against West Indies have been retained. Sri Lanka have also strengthened their spin attack and have included Ramesh Mendis and Lakshan Sandakan.

Earlier, few reports suggested that Sri Lanka is looking to build a team for the future thus they are not interested in selecting underperforming senior members of the team. Recently, Thisara Perera announced his retirement from international cricket. It is speculated that his decision was inspired by this development.

The ODI series is all set to start on May 23 at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. The other two matches will be played on 25th May and 28th May at the same venue.  Take a look our online cricket betting tips  and see more how we predict matches.
