UPDATED Virat Kohli is available for the ODIs against South Africa. “I was and am available for selection (for the ODIs),” he said. “I was contacted by selectors 1.5 hours before the meeting, we discussed the Test selection, then chief selectors told me I won’t be the ODI captain and I was fine with it. There was no prior communication.”

Virat Kohli to miss ODIs

In the recent development of Team India’s captainship saga, there is speculation that Virat Kohli is all set to miss the ODI series against South Africa. Team India will be under new captaincy in the 3 match ODI series against South Africa. Rohit Sharma will be the leading man for the same.

According to reports, Virat Kohli is planning to celebrate his daughter’s birthday after the test series. He is planning to take a vacation with his family. Vamika, Virat’s daughter, was born on 11th January last year and he will celebrate her 1st birthday.

India will play 3 one-day internationals against South Africa starting from 19th January. The third and final test is all set to begin on 11th January and scheduled to go on till 15th January. After 15th January, Kohli will be on vacation won’t be part of any ODI in South Africa. Do check big bash 2022 schedule here.

Rohit Sharma, the new T20, and ODI skipper will lead the team. It is uncanny that the news comes one day after BCCI revealed that Rohit Sharma will miss out on the test series because of his injury in a training session. According to reports, Rohit will be fit to play for ODIs.

Earlier this month, BCCI sacked Kohli from his ODI captaincy. The announcement came after 3 months of Virat’s resignation from the T20 captaincy. Because of these unexpected announcements, all is not well in India’s dressing room. In the past, there were already some speculations that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not on friendly terms.

According to a source, tracking the development in the team, there are some ego issues in the Indian dressing room.

“Over the years, the Indian dressing room has been fraught with egos. Be it Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammed Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir. But that doesn’t mean that it has boiled over to what they go and do out there on the field. They’re professionals and are required to behave in a certain fashion at all times,”  said the source to TOI.
