“Virat Kohli has been struggling to play…”- Wasim Jaffer issues a stern warning ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia

Virat Kohli: Team India is currently hosting New Zealand for three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series is almost done with only one game left, and India has an unassailable lead of 2-0. Then both teams will lock horns in a three-match T20I series starting on January 27, Friday, in Ranchi. But the biggest challenge for India will start after that when Australia comes here for the four-match Border-Gavaskar series, which is the Indian team’s last chance to make it to the final of the ongoing World Test Championship.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has looked in great touch recently. Especially in ODI cricket, his form has been exceptional, and he broke a few records in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He ended up with two centuries in three One-Day Internationals and the most runs in the series. But he got out cheaply in both ODIs against New Zealand. Virat registered the scores of 8 and 11 in both innings of the ongoing series.

“Virat Kohli has been struggling to play leg-spin” – Wasim Jaffer

The former Indian skipper would like to make the most of the opportunity in the third and final ODI, which will take place on Tuesday at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. After two consecutive low scores, he would try to count the next inning. In the first game, he was outfoxed by a peach from Mitchell Santner.
Then, in the second game, in a small chase, he came out to bat to finish the game quickly, and after scoring two boundaries, he got dismissed to Santner again. In the last couple of years, Virat has struggled against leg-spinners and leg-spin. That’s what former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer reckons. In a discussion on ESPC Cricinfo, Jaffer said,
“Virat has been struggling to play leg-spin for quite a while now. He has gone out to left-arm spin of Mitchell Santner two matches in a row. I expect Kohli to make a good comeback in the third ODI. Australia are touring soon and they have a solid bowling unit with Nathan Lyon. So, the expectation is always there from him to score runs and do well.”
Virat’s form will be very important for Team India in the BGT series. India needs to win the series 3-0 or 3-1 to qualify for the WTC final. For that, Virat’s run in the middle order will be very vital because Rishabh Pant is also not part of the team.
