Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan lost his composure with teammate Karim Janat during a tense moment in their T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Bangladesh in St Vincent on Monday evening (June 24).

Afghanistan’s innings struggled after Rashid chose to bat first on a challenging Arnos Vale Ground surface. Despite a 59-run opening partnership between Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, it came at a slow pace of 64 balls, putting pressure on the subsequent batsmen.

Rashid Khan Throws His Bat At Karim Janat

As Afghanistan’s middle order faltered, Rashid managed to hit a huge six off Taskin Ahmed, briefly lifting the team’s hopes. However, the 19th over yielded only one run, and in the final over, bowled by Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rashid aimed to accelerate the score.

On the third delivery of the final over, Rashid edged the ball towards the covers while attempting a helicopter shot. He and Janat ran hard for the first run, but Janat declined the second run, prompting an irate reaction from Rashid. In a fit of frustration, Rashid snapped at Janat and threw his bat, although no one was hurt. Janat retrieved the bat and approached Rashid to hand it back and discuss the situation, but Rashid turned his back on him.

Commentators found the incident amusing as replays of the outburst were shown. On the next delivery, Janat took a single, and Rashid responded with a dot ball followed by a towering 98-metre six. The innings ended as rain began to fall, sending players rushing to their dugouts.
