The Board of Control for Cricket in India yesterday evening announced 4 squads for 2 upcoming tours of New Zealand and Bangladesh. The men in blue will visit New Zealand right after the T20 World Cup. The Indian team will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODI. After that, in the month of December, they will go to Bangladesh to participate in 2 test games and 3 ODIs. Surprisingly, none of the squad has any mention of Jasprit Bumrah.

The chief selector Chetan Sharma attended the press conference announcing the squad and answering questions about the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. He mentioned that earlier the management tried to rush his recovery process and as a result, he was ruled out of the T20 World Cup. It is expected that Bumrah will only be back in 2023. While bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mohammad Siraj and others are available for selection, no one can fill in for Jasprit Bumrah.

“He will be back soon. Hoping we will play for India again soon. We hurried Jasprit Bumrah before the T20 World Cup and you saw what happened. So we want to be patient now. The NCA team is looking after him well. Right now, we are a little cautious about including Bumrah. When we rest a player, there is a reason behind it,” Chetan Sharma said.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja who also suffered an injury just like Jasprit Bumrah is back on the side. Jadeja will travel with India for the Bangladesh tour. Deepak Chahar too has recovered well and is included in the squad for New Zealand. Following the completion of the T20 World Cup players like Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, as well as KL Rahul have been rested for the New Zealand tour. Dinesh Karthik will miss both tours completely and R Ashwin will come back for the Bangladesh test.

Hardik Pandya will lead the T20 side and Shikhar Dhawan will lead the ODIs versus the black caps. Rishabh Pant has been given the position of vice-captain. Sanju Samson who missed out on the selection in the T20 World Cup is back too. Kuldeep Sen and Yash Dayal have found a place in the squad too. Prithvi Shaw despite having performed well has been sidelined and Ravi Bishnoi also was not in the scheme of things for these two tours.
