WI vs BAN: Bangladesh’s new Test captain is veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. He will be Bangladesh’s Test captain for the third time. Current skipper Mominul Haque decided to relinquish his captaincy following the 0-1 series loss to Sri Lanka at home. Mominul took such a harsh step to focus on his batting. Meanwhile, Liton Das has been named Shakib’s supervisor. Bet online by checking more trusted betting sites in India for the upcoming match here on our site.

It should be noted that Mominul succeeded Shakib as Bangladesh’s red-ball captain after the latter was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2019 for failing to report corrupt approaches. Bangladesh went on to win three Tests, draw two, and lose 12 in 17 games under Mominul. The ex-skipper approached Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan and stated that he wanted to focus on his batting and asked the board to delegate captaincy to someone else.

However, Hasan was opposed to re-appointing Shakib Al Hasan as Test captain. Hasan told Cricbuzz that it was necessary to meet with the all-rounder to determine whether he is available for the longer format, given that he has been fairly non-committal about his long-term plans in the format. Shakib has missed a handful amount of games this season. In fact, Shakib has only played five of Bangladesh’s last 18 Test matches dating back to September 2019.

“If he says that he won’t go or choose a format then it will be a problem. Shakib was our skipper and there is no doubt about his captaincy. But we also need to be sure about his availability,”

Nazmul to Cricbuzz

However, later today Nazmul confirmed the news and revealed that the board had three names on their list and would’ve chosen the other two if Shakib had said no to taking over. The BCB head said Shakib has given his commitment to be available for all matches in the foreseeable future.

“We have a series against Zimbabwe after the West Indies. He may not be there. Other than this, he gave us a commitment he would play in all formats in future series, but it’s difficult to say for how long Shakib will be leading the side,”

he concluded

Liton will take charge of Bangladesh when they tour West Indies for a two-match Test series. Meanwhile, the white ball leg will comprise of 3 T20Is and an equal number of ODIs. The Bengal Tigers almost pulled off a heist against New Zealand early this year. They will be hoping to go one step further and make history in the Caribbean.
