WI vs IND: India registered a thrilling victory in the second game of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies on Sunday. It was the second successive nail-biting finish that went down to the wire. After a close win in the first ODI, the visitors held their nerve to seal the second game to win the series as well. With this win, India has taken a 2-0 unassailable lead with the third match to be played on Wednesday. Looking for more online betting sites in India for the 2022 season? Read here.

However, it was an incredible inning from all-rounder Axar Patel, who brought up his maiden fifty to help India win the game. He remained not out on 64* off just 35 deliveries, including three boundaries and five maximums. The Men in Blue needed 105 runs in the last 11 overs when Axar came out to bat. He went in with a T20 mindset, as he did for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. As a result, it came off, and the visitors won their 12th successive series against the West Indies.

After the match, the all-rounder opened up about his plans during the chase. Notably, apart from Axar, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson also scored their respective half-centuries, while Shubman Gill (43) and Deepak Hooda (33) also made contributions. After scoring a fifty in the first game, Iyer scored 63 runs in the second match. On the other hand, Samson made his maiden ODI fifty and scored 54 runs. On Chahal TV, Axar said after the game,

“I went in (during 39th over) to bat with an intent of finishing the run-chase. (Deepak) Hooda and I were talking that in 11 overs some 105 runs were needed. It was 9.5 or 10 run rate. Even in IPL these many runs are scored in 10 overs. So, we were like we will keep our intent and it will become easy for us. We won’t think that 100 runs were needed.”

Earlier in the match, the West Indies won the toss and batted first. They had a good start with two 50+ partnerships for the first and second wickets. Shai Hope, who was playing his 100th ODI game, scored his 13th ODI century. He also became the 10th batter to score a century in the 100th ODI and the fourth player from the West Indies.

Skipper Nicholas Pooran also looked good and scored 74 off 77 balls. For India, Shardul Thakur registered 3/54. The hosts made 311/6 in 50 overs. India chased it down with two balls to spare and won by two wickets. Both teams will now play the third and final game on Wednesday, July 27 at the same venue.
