World Cup 2023: ‘Start Matches Early’: Ravichandran Ashwin Suggests Time Change To Avoid Dew

World Cup 2023: In order to eliminate the dew effect during the 2018 World Cup in India, star Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has suggested a preponement of matches. Dew has long had an impact on many matches in the subcontinent, giving pursuing teams an unfair advantage. Since there is a chance of dew, the captain who wins the toss must choose to chase.

World Cup 2023: “Look At Venues”: Ravichandran Ashwin

“My suggestion, or rather my opinion, for the World Cup is to look at what venues we are playing in, and at what times. Why shouldn’t we start matches at 11.30 am during the World Cup? India batted beautifully on a slow wicket and posted a score well above par. Still, they ended up having to fight tooth and nail to win. “The quality difference between the teams isn’t coming through – dew is narrowing that gap if you lose the toss.”
Ashwin said
Just so you know, day-night ODIs in India typically start at 1:30 pm and go well past primetime. The 36-year-old made his point by using the first ODI of the just-finished series between India and Sri Lanka. To illustrate how the dew obscures the talent gap between the two teams. Batting first in the first ODI, India scored 373/7, while Sri Lanka only managed 306/8.
The World Cup will be held in India, so viewers will certainly tune in to watch the game regardless of the timings. But Ashwin continued by saying that it would only be fair to start the game at least two hours early to eliminate the dew effect. And allow viewers to watch not late until night.
World Cup 2023: Playing Conditions For Team India
“People will bring up television viewers and broadcasters, and say that people won’t latch on and watch at that time, but would they not latch on to World Cup matches?. The recent T20 World Cup was also held in winter, prioritizing the summer. It wasn’t the ideal scenario, T20 is a fast-paced game, so how can you play it in winter? People will say that’s not the case in Australia, but still, we need to prioritize World Cups.”
Said Ashwin
Ashwin suggested that dew offers chasing teams an unfair advantage. By using the example of India’s first ODI match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. India was put into a bat while keeping the dew issue in mind. Batted with intentional urgency to record a total of 373. The final score was 67 runs in their favour. But Ashwin thought that this did not adequately reflect their domination that day.
