Another successful season of the Women’s T20 Challenge has once again stirred the debate of the Women’s IPL in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been hosting the Women’s T20 Challenge since 2018. It is considered to be a progressive step towards hosting the Women’s IPL. Despite willful efforts, the BCCI has failed to materialize on the same.

Women’s T20 Challenge: BCCI’s extended proposal to start IPL earlier this year

Earlier this year, the BCCI extended their proposal to conduct a six-team IPL starting next year. The decision was taken at a Governing Council (GC) meeting of the Indian Premier League in Mumbai on March 25. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted after the game about the next season being an even better one, hinting about the start of the much-awaited Women’s IPL next season.

‘The quality of cricket one witnessed in Women’s T20 Challenge was truly remarkable with the best of Indian talent rubbing shoulders with the best in the world. The future is certainly promising and the next season will be much bigger.’
