Top Players

KL Rahul

Role : Captain, Wicketkeeper Batsmen
Batting Style : Right-Handed
Nationality : Indian
DOB : 18 April 1992
IPL Debut : 2013

The Lucknow Super Giants captain for the 2023 is KL Rahul following an impressive campaign by the newcomers. Rahul has a wealth of experience as he also captained the Kings XI for many seasons. It was not easy for the Supergiants to pry him away from the Kings and it required an amount of INR 17 crores to rope KL Rahul into the team. At the time it was the highest amount ever paid for a player in the IPL. He is one of those players that has a cool head and is seldom flustered, which are great attributes in a leader. The most important aspect of his leadership is the respect he receives from both the young and experienced players on the team.

Avesh Khan

Role : Bowler
Bowling Arm : Right
Bowling Style : Fast
Nationality : Indian
DOB : 13 December 1996
IPL Debut : 2017

The Lucknow Super Giants are obviously in their infancy; their most successful bowler is Avesh Khan with just 18 wickets. His wickets haul did not even place him in the top 10 on the highest wicket-takers charts last season. Avesh Khan, a fast bowler from Madhya Pradesh, can move the ball both ways and can deliver a mean short ball. The right-arm pacer, who made his First-Class debut in 2014 and played for India in the ICC Under 19 World Cup in 2016, has taken a massive stride in his cricketing journey and now has made his Team India debut. Avesh, who made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017, then moved Delhi Capitals – playing an impressive brand of cricket – will now be donning the LSG colours after being bought for INR 10 Crore.

Nicholas Pooran

Role : Wicketkeeper Batter
Batting Style : Left-handed
Nationality : West Indian
DOB : 02 October 1995
IPL Debut : 2019

When the Lucknow Super Giants players lists was announced, many thought their strength was in their batting department because of batsmen like KL Rahul, de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Stoinis. The surprise buy at the auction by the Super Giants was the acquisition of Pooran for a whopping ₹16 crore (US$2.0 million). He is a big hitter with undoubted talent but has struggled for runs in the last two editions of the tournament. He will need to produce the goods if he is to repay the faith the Super Giants have shown to him. On his best day, he can win matches almost single-handedly, although in the past those innings are too far apart. He has often been guilty of playing reckless shots early in his knock and he will hope under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir that he will be patient in his batting. The leading run scorer for the franchise is KL Rahul with 616 runs while the highest individual score belongs to De Kock with 140 not out from just 70 balls.

Nicholas Pooran Stats

Quinton de Kock

Role : Wicketkeeper Batter
Batting Style : Left-handed
Nationality : South African
DOB : 17th December 1992
IPL Debut : 2013

He is one of the most exciting wicketkeeper-batsmen in world cricket and after plying his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore and five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians, Quinton de Kock will now be a part of the LSG unit after the franchise bought him for INR 6.75 Crore in the TATA IPL 2022 auction. The left-handed batsman loves to attack the bowlers and his explosive hitting makes things easier for his batting partners and puts pressure on the opposition. His form and performance will be vital to LSG’s fortune.

Cricket Betting Predictions

The Lucknow Super Giants are the latest edition to the IPL after they were formed in 2021 and made their debut in the 2022 tournament. In 2021, the governing body of the IPL decided to increase the number of teams in the competition to ten teams. There was huge interest with 22 possible companies launching interest for the two spots. There was however a massive base price for the new spots which eventually saw the possible franchise owners drop to six. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was to oversee the bidding process, which allowed a consortium of three companies or individuals to bid for each franchise. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group won the rights to operate the Lucknow franchise with a bid of ₹7,090 crores. The Lucknow Super Giants will play their home matches at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in India. They played their matches in 2022 in Maharashtra due to the Covid pandemic in India.

CricTips’ expert rating

The competition for this season’s title will once again be a tightly contested affair with the likes of Mumbai definitely looking for an improvement after finishing an embarrassing 10th position. It is important to note that all teams played all their matches at neutral venues last season so returning to their original home grounds is sure to make teams playing on their home patches difficult to play against. The bookies have the Gujarat Titans as favourites to defend their title at odds of 6/1, with Mumbai, Delhi, and RCB as second-favourites at 7/1. The Lucknow Super Giants are among the outsiders with odds of 9/1. If they can continue on the form from their debut season, they could be well worth a wager.

Odds for the Lucknow Supergiants to win the IPL trophy in 2023: 9.0

Latest Lucknow Super Giants News

There are a few world-class players in the Lucknow team along with some highly talented younger players. The players at the top of the batting order, namely Rahul and De Kock, hold the key to their team’s success. If these two can get the team off to a good start, then the batsmen that follow will be able to play their natural attacking game without being too worried about losing their wickets. It was no surprise last season that these two batsmen were the only two players to score over 500 runs for the franchise, with Rahul scoring 616 and de Kock 508. If they can get assistance from the rest of the batting line-up, they will be tough to beat.

The Lucknow Super Giants owners are the RPSG Group, who previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise between 2016 and 2017. Sanjeev Goenka is its principal owner and he showed his hand at the team’s first IPL auction when they paid substantial amounts to secure the service of international stars like Rahul, Quinton de Kock, and Marcus Stoinis.

The Lucknow Super Giants team had a fantastic debut season in which they finished third on the table. They finished on the same number of points (18) as the second-placed Rajasthan Royals, but they had an inferior run rate to the Royals. They gave an excellent account of themselves but were eventually eliminated by the Royal Challenge Bangalore in the playoffs. The Super Giants will be seeking their maiden IPL title in 2023 and will have the backing of their home support this season as the original format of home and away matches will resume. The IPL newbies can take plenty of confidence after they ended the group stage 10 points clear of the five-time champions, the Mumbai Indians

Highest Score – 211/4 vs Super Kings (2022)

The Lucknow Super Giants have only played a total of 15 matches in their IPL history, with 14 in the league phase and one in the playoffs, so there are not too many high scores for them. Their highest score of 211 was achieved in an incredible run chase against the Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This was not their only total over 200 as they also reached 210 in another match against the Kolkata Knight Riders—which was even more amazing as they achieved this mammoth total without losing a wicket. Most teams score their biggest totals at their home grounds, so we can expect these scores to be surpassed this season as the Super Giants will finally get to play at their real home ground in Lucknow.
